There are also complaints about Chinese tourists fighting about trivial matters in public places. As every country or culture has its acceptable limits of noise in public, the Chinese have been known to be less conscious of keeping their private conversations, well, private.
In an article written by an Aussie who’s lived in China for many years, Stephen McDonell describes his fascination about the level of tolerance each culture has for unwanted noise. He has come to love China, but still has mixed feelings about the level of noise that the Chinese can tolerate.
He attributes this to what the Chinese consider a good place to stay. Instead of looking for places that are quiet, elegant and refined, the Chinese prefer something hectic and busy…a place that appears to attract throngs. The local term used is “renao.”
